STEM for Her is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering girls and young women to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Through various programs, mentorship opportunities, scholarships, and partnerships with industry leaders, STEM for Her has positively impacted more than 10,000 students and awarded over $1.5 million in scholarships and community-supported grants.
Position Summary:
STEM for Her seeks a dynamic, results-driven Director of Development who is adept at both strategy and hands-on execution. The Director will lead all fundraising efforts, cultivate relationships with donors, and expand the organization’s revenue streams to support its $1.25M annual operating budget. The Director will not only develop fundraising strategies but also execute them, working closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and volunteers to increase funding and deepen engagement with donors, corporate sponsors, and other partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fundraising Strategy & Leadership (Development & Execution):
- Develop, implement, and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to meet or exceed the organization’s $1.25M annual budget.
- Design and implement fundraising campaigns for individual giving, corporate sponsorships, grant writing, and special events.
- Actively oversee day-to-day execution of fundraising plans, ensuring goals are met.
- Create and manage donor stewardship activities to build long-term relationships and increase donor retention.
- Major Gifts & Corporate Partnerships (Development & Execution):
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
- Build and maintain relationships with corporate partners, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission while creating opportunities for sponsorship and program support.
- Personally engage in donor outreach, stewardship, and recognition activities, ensuring that donor and partner relationships are well-maintained.
- Grant Writing & Management (Development & Execution):
- Lead the research, writing, and submission of grants to foundation and corporate donors.
- Track grant applications and reporting deadlines, maintaining strong relationships with funding organizations.
- Proactively engage in grant writing activities and ensure successful submission and reporting.
- Event Planning & Management (Development & Execution):
- Collaborate with the team to plan and execute all aspects of fundraising events, including STEM for Her Day, STEM for Her – Elevate Her Gala, and other donor engagement initiatives.
- Manage event sponsorship solicitations, and day-of event sponsor execution to ensure seamless operations and donor engagement.
- Board Engagement (Collaboration & Execution):
- Work with the Board of Directors, Advisory Council, and the Executive Director to engage board members in fundraising activities, providing ongoing reports and support for their involvement in donor cultivation.
- Actively involve board members in execution plans for donor outreach and event participation.
- Budgeting & Reporting (Development & Execution):
- Develop, manage, and execute the department's budget to meet the organization’s financial goals.
- Regularly report on progress towards fundraising goals, donor engagement metrics, and financial performance to the Executive Director and Board.
- Marketing & Communications (Development & Execution):
- Collaborate with the team to create and implement targeted communications for donors, including annual reports, newsletters, social media content, and donor impact stories.
- Oversee and directly manage donor database operations, ensuring accurate tracking of relationships and communications.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 5+ years of experience in nonprofit development, with proven success in both strategizing and executing major gift fundraising, corporate sponsorships, and donor cultivation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and execute a development budget and achieve fundraising goals of $1M or more.
- Strong understanding of donor stewardship and the ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with key stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including grant writing and public speaking.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with attention to detail and a focus on results.
- Passion for the mission of empowering young women in STEM.
Compensation:
- Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
