 Director of Private Philanthropy – Neighborhood Health

Neighborhood Health is seeking a Director of Private Philanthropy who will play a crucial role in building and cultivating relationships with current and potential individual donors, corporations, and planned giving prospects, and securing six- and seven-figure gifts to support Neighborhood Health’s mission and its programs, capital needs, and priorities.

Responsibilities Include:

  • The Director will develop, implement, and oversee Neighborhood Health’s individual and corporate major gifts, capital, and planned giving programs.
  • Identifies and develops gift plans for potential major gifts donors and prospects, and implements strategies and actions that result in new, recurring, and increased funding support.
  • Solicits, cultivates, and stewards existing donors and major gift prospects capable of six- and seven-figure gifts to sustain and advance NH goals.
  • Identifies and cultivates planned giving prospects and secures interest in and commitment to legacy giving among NH donors.
  • Identifies and secures opportunities to raise visibility, generating engagement and support from corporations, area leaders, and wealth managers.
  • Develops and supports an engagement plan for our CEO and other NH leadership in major gifts, capital, and planned giving activities.
  • Provides staff support for the creation and operation of Neighborhood Health’s Legacy Society and Advisory Fundraising groups.
  • Leads and implements Neighborhood Health’s capital fundraising activities.
  • Works with our Development Team to create donor-centered communications, such as proposals and impact reports, and donor recognition resources.
  • Creates and supports major gifts and planned giving donor events in collaboration with our Development Team.
  • Set up systems in collaboration with NH Finance Department to administer legacy gifts, such as wills and bequests, IRA and beneficiary designations, and other legacy gifts.
  • Ensures that major gift, planned giving, and capital giving are based on NH’s strategic goals, objectives, and priorities.
  • Provides stewardship and engagement work plans, reports on actions taken and results, and contact reports to ensure continuity of donor and prospect management and support.
  • Take on other tasks as directed by the CEO.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, healthcare, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, including frontline work in major gifts, individual and corporate giving, and planned giving. Direct experience within healthcare fundraising is strongly preferred.
  • Fundraising Results: Demonstrated success in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and closing major gifts at the six- and ideally seven-figure levels, with a consistent track record of meeting or exceeding revenue goals. Experience managing a donor portfolio of active prospects, balancing both retention and new donor acquisition.
  • Donor Relations & Stewardship: Skilled in building and sustaining long-term donor relationships through thoughtful stewardship, personalized engagement strategies, and consistent follow-up. Ability to develop cultivation strategies and engagement work plans for the CEO and senior leadership to maximize donor involvement.
  • Event Leadership: Proven ability to plan, execute, and support donor cultivation and recognition events, including collaborating with leadership, board members, and elected officials. Brings creativity and professionalism to events that will foster collaboration with high-level community leaders, some of whom may be elected officials, enhance donor experiences, and strengthen organizational visibility.
  • Strategic Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex programs, initiatives, and impact stories into persuasive proposals, cases for support, donor reports, and external communications. Adept at presenting to diverse audiences, including donors, board members, and community leaders.
  • Technology & Systems: Proficiency in donor management systems such as Blackbaud’s E-Tapestry or Raiser’s Edge, with the flexibility to adapt to new CRM systems. Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting, presentations, and communications.
  • Collaboration & Leadership: Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with a professional presence and ability to inspire confidence. Comfortable building collaborative and productive relationships across staff, leadership, and the development team. Recognized for empathy, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Work Style: Outstanding collaborator, self-motivated, creative, initiative, and follow-through. Thrives in independent work while excelling as part of a team. Skilled at balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution in a start-up program, as outlined in this job description, or in a growth-oriented organization such as ours.
  • Community Engagement: Brings an understanding of and comfort with engaging high-level donors, prospects, community leaders, and corporate partners. Ability to represent the organization with professionalism and authenticity in both formal and informal settings.
  • Travel: Local travel required for donor, prospects, and community leaders’ visits, and engagement at NH organizational sites and clinics. No overnight travel required.
