Position Summary:  The Advancement Writer is a key role in supporting the build out of a formal grant and direct mail programs. They are responsible for the development of content for grants/proposals, appeals and newsletters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under supervision of the Chief Development Officer, responsible for all stages of the grant & proposal process – researching prospects, writing the proposals and submitting follow-up reports, to include story development and tracking grant spends.
  • With guidance from the Chief Development Officer, develop and own the direct mail production process – developing content, working with design teams and mail house, coordinating with the Database Manager and ensuring all parties stay on the production schedule.
  • Develops content for newsletters and other feature stories.
  • Produces stewardship reports for leadership donors.
  • As needed, helps with travel briefs and research on donor/prospect profiles.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in writing for Public Relations, Fundraising, Communications, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience providing engaging content for top management and the public
  • Ability to write, edit, and proofread content for various audiences 
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • A clear understanding of communication channels, including emails and social media
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, or a related field
